Why Shallowater Residents Need a Water Softener
Shallowater’s water comes from Lubbock, and Lubbock’s water is hard. The City of Shallowater’s own consumer confidence reports state that the town purchases its water from the Lubbock public water system, which draws groundwater from the Ogallala Aquifer. City of Lubbock Water Utilities reports average hardness at approximately 205 mg/L, which the U.S. Geological Survey rates as very hard. Because Shallowater buys Lubbock water, homes there see about the same, roughly 12 gpg.
Hard water leaves scale in water heaters, pipes and fixtures and spots on dishes and glass. A softener removes the calcium and magnesium behind those problems for every tap in the house.
